Orchestras Make Their Presence Known
On Friday, April 4, the orchestra students from Summerville High School participated in three orchestras from Dorchester District 2 that performed at the South Carolina Music Educators Association Region III Orchestra Concert Festival. One orchestra earned a Superior Rating and the second orchestra earned an Excellent Rating, and the third orchestra received a Good Rating. The orchestras were composed of students both from Fort Dorchester High School and from Summerville High School.
Over forty orchestras participated in Region III (which primarily encompasses the Columbia metropolitan area). Results of the entire region are not available at this time nor does the rating system lend itself to an absolute ranking, comparing one orchestra to another. Statewide, divided into four regions, over 150 school orchestras participated.
This marks the first attempt by any high school orchestra from Dorchester 2 in orchestra competition.
