
Principal - Roger Edwards
Mr. Edwards received a Bachelors of Science from East Carolina University in 1974, a Masters in Education from Western Carolina University in 1979, and an Ed.S from South Carolina State University in 1998. He has 18 years of teaching and coaching experience and 16 years of school administration experience. Mr. Edwards has served as an Assistant Principal, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent. He is married to Mary Evelyn and has 3 children, Anna who graduated from the University of North Carolina and Doug and Kate who are graduates of Wingate University.

Asst. Principal - Latasha Calvin
Mrs. Calvin moved here from Murrieta, California and joined the Greenwave staff as an Assistant Principal Intern in January 2008. She received her Bachelors in Business Information System from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, her certification of Business Education from East Carolina University, and a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati. Mrs. Calvin taught middle school and high school in North Carolina, Virginia, and California for a total of 7 years prior to becoming an administrator. Mrs. Calvin is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and enjoys basketball, traveling, and spending time with her husband, eight year old daughter, and Shih-Tzu.

Asst. Principal - John Dearing
Mr. Dearing has been an educator for 34 years. He taught various math courses for 27 of those years. The remaining 7 years he has served as an assistant principal at Summerville High School. Prior to coming to Summerville High, Mr. Dearing taught at Alston Middle School from 1986 until 1993. Before teaching in District Two, he taught in a small rural high school in Ohio. Mr. Dearing earned both his bachelors and masters degrees from Ohio State University. Mr. Dearing also taught math courses as an adjunct professor at Trident Technical College for 11 years. He enjoys riding his jet ski or boat in the summertime on Lake Marion. In wintertime, he likes to ride his four wheeler around the lake. He also enjoys spending time with his dog, Molly, and his family. Mr. Dearing’s wife is the principal at Givhans Alternative Program.

Asst. Principal - Suzanne deTreville
Ms. deTreville returned to South Carolina after 18 years to Dorchester District Two Schools in August of 2006 where she was employed as a special education teacher at Summerville High School. In July 2007, she was appointed as assistant principal at SHS. Ms. deTreville has an extensive background in special education and school administration. She has served as Director of Special Services, Special Education Coordinator for Middle and High Schools, Director of Pre-k Special Education, and an elementary and middle school assistant principal. Ms. deTreville has a B.S. and M.Ed. in Special Education as well as an Ed.S in School Administration.

Asst. Principal - Brooks Harlow
Mr. Harlow moved here from Southboro, MA. After graduating from Clemson University in Architecture, he went back to The Citadel and got his Masters in Teaching and certification in Administration once he found his educational calling. He has been with Summerville for most of his teaching and his entire administrative career. Mr. Harlow has a beautiful wife who also works in the district and two daughters that go to school in Dorchester District 2.

Asst. Principal - William Penn
Mr. Penn moved from Alabama to South Carolina in 1969. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education form South Carolina State College and a Masters in School Administration from The Citadel. Mr. Penn received a full baseball scholarship from South Carolina State where he played for three years. During this time Mr. Penn was a small college All American. Mr. Penn began teaching Health and Physical Education at Alston Middle School in 1972. In 1975 Mr. Penn became an Assistant Principal at Summerville High School where he has served for thirty three years. Mr. Penn also coached in Summerville for thirty two years (football, baseball, basketball). He has a son Billy, a daughter Aimee, and four grand children.

Asst. Principal - Brion Rutherford
Brion Rutherford grew up in the Charleston area and his family relocated to Summerville when he was in the 7th grade. Mr. Rutherford is a graduate of Summerville High School and Newberry College, where he was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Alpha Theta Honor Societies. Mr. Rutherford taught at Summerville High School for 7 years before obtaining his Master’s Degree from The Citadel, where he was an Honor Graduate from the School of Education. He is currently serving in his 3rd year as an Assistant Principal in Dorchester School District Two.

Asst. Principal - Steven Steele
Mr. Steele graduated from Charleston Southern University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in History, from Clemson University in 1998 with a teaching certification, and from University of South Carolina in 2004 with a Masters in Education Administration. He has served in education since 1993 as a teacher, coach, and administrator. Mr. Steele enjoys hiking, fishing, the outdoors, and spending time with his wife Mindy and their two children Carolina and Jackson.
Asst. Principal - Lynné Watson
Ms. Watson returns to SHS after a year as an administrative intern at DuBose Middle School. Prior to that, she served as an English teacher at SHS. An educator with more than 19 years experience, Ms. Watson is an honor graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education and Charleston Southern University with a Master of Education degree in School Leadership and Supervision. She has three children (Danielle, Ashleigh, and Hunter) and enjoys reading, directing programs and plays, and working with young people. Ms. Watson’s goals as an administrator at Summerville are to make “the largest high school in South Carolina” seem smaller and more nurturing and to assist teachers in opening students’ eyes to the relationship between a good education and potential happiness and success in the future.

Asst. Principal - Will Wilson
Mr. Wilson joined the Summerville High School family as an Assistant Principal Intern in August of 2007. He received his Bachelors of Science in Biology, Environmental Engineering and Environmental Technology from the University of South Carolina and Coastal Carolina University. He also received his Masters in Administration in Secondary Administration from Charleston Southern University. Mr. Wilson taught high school science for four years and economics for one year prior to becoming an administrator. Mr. Wilson also coached high school football and basketball for three years and is a member of the Environmental Association of South Carolina.
